UNBELIEVABLY, over the last 24 hrs I've received a handful of angry DM's about our use - no, actually MY USE - I am the CEO, after all - of the word "meditate" in our descriptive copy used for Renewed Mind Radio (https://renewedmindradio.com ). So, here I am to ACCURATELY clear the air (again 🙄 ).
Meditation is NOT "New Age Occultist" (quote from one of the more spicy DM's) - it's "ANCIENT AGE HOLY"! 🙌
Now, I 100% concede that WHAT you meditate on makes all the difference between beneficial & suspect - sure, fine. But, if you know me AT ALL - you know I'm not about ANY of that shady stuff and won't promote it 🙄
However, it seems to me that WAY too many Christians are MORE THAN WILLING to hand over THE POWER TO DEFINE MEANING to entities who are... well, let's just say "OTHER than God". Blows my mind every time. Seriously.
First of all, there are WELL over 50 Bible verses spanning the Old & New Testaments that directly communicate the concept or actual practice of meditation. I can only - and usually do - highlight this in ONE sentence:
"When was the last time YOU were out herding sheep all day and night & had nothing more to do in your life than to sit under a tree and think about your relationship with your Creator?" (and wonder why He doesn't "speak" to you 🤷♀️)
Exactly.
It's the disconnectedness from our own Spirit that is the lie. It's the "busyness" of the life thrust upon is that is the deception. Yet, so many who claim a connection to God through Christ often - and loudly - stand in agreement with the enemy of our souls when it comes to this topic of meditative contemplation and taking ownership and stewardship of our own mental health.
Allow me to simply leave this here:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." - Philippians 4:8
Guarding our hearts / minds is nothing new. In fact, it's important! "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." - Proverbs 4:23
So, yeah - I'll debate anyone who comes at me with an accusation about the importance of meditation and other ways we should guard our minds / hearts. We absolutely DO NOT have to accept the deception that we are casual, passive observers in a world beyond our control. THAT IS A LIE.
The true deception is that we are imagined to be cogs in a wheel of someone else's making. God says we are so precious He knows the number of every hair on our heads, knew us before we were formed in our mother's womb and has plans to prosper us in beautiful, eternal ways.
"The World" is not going to ever support that. Surely, you know and understand this by now. (Do some Google research on the phrase "Cognitive Dissonance" 👍)
In the midst of our busy lives, finding moments of stillness and reflection can be a source of great spiritual strength - which we all desperately need. The Bible, a timeless guide regardless of what authority you ascribe to it, is replete with references to the practice of meditation, emphasizing its profound significance.
🌟 Psalm 1:2 reminds us, "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law, he meditates day and night." This verse highlights the transformative power of immersing ourselves in God's Word through meditation.
🕊️ Joshua 1:8 encourages us: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it." Meditating on God's word equips us to walk in His ways.
🌿 Psalm 19:14 beautifully portrays the essence of meditative prayer: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock, and my redeemer."
In our hectic world, these biblical references invite us to pause, reflect, and find solace in meditation. As we quiet our minds and open our hearts to God's ACTUAL presence in our lives, we can experience transformation, peace, and a deeper connection with our Creator. Committing to nurturing our souls through meditation or contemplation, allows the LIVING GOD to guide our path in the face of all opposition.
In the final words of some of my detractors on this subject:
"God said it. I believe it. That settles it."
DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU ADOPT ANY BELIEF.
Period.

This verse encourages believers not to conform to the patterns of the world, but to undergo a transformation by renewing their minds. This renewal enables them to discern God's will.
Colossians 3:9-10 (ESV):
"Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator."
This verse reinforces the idea of putting off the old self and embracing the new self, which is continually renewed in knowledge after the image of God.

I must confess this realization brought me to tears this afternoon.
So, meditating on the real meaning of the Greek word "matanoia" (often (mis)translated into English as "repentance") which actually means "to change one's mind"... I've come to a stunning peace about something I've seen people of faith struggle with my entire life - including myself, at times. I can say with deep certainty that "Accepting Jesus" is actually just "accepting" that God "accepts" us. In fact, He doesn't just "accept" us, He created us. On purpose. Out of love.
Having worked in the divorce & remarriage & co-parenting counseling sphere for decades, I guess something finally clicked. I was focusing on the meaning of the actual word itself, juxtaposed against the lackluster (at best) or manipulative (at worst) blatant mistranslation. If any person today had twisted the meaning of a parent’s words sent to a child in such a diabolical, convoluted way, they'd stand rightfully accused of criminal Parental Alienation. Look it up.
"The Divine Exchange", as many refer to it, actually levels out to be an exchange of boundless grace and love in exchange for bean-counting, sin & death focused legalistic futility. That's 100% Biblical. I'll debate anyone, anytime on that point.
In the Old Testament, God had many names He called Himself, and many names the People ascribed to Him. Here are a few examples:
El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
El Elyon (The Most High God)
Adonai (Lord, Master)
Yahweh (Lord, Jehovah)
Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner)
Jehovah Raah (The Lord My Shepherd)
Jehovah Rapha (The Lord That Heals)
Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There)
Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness)
Jehovah Mekoddishkem (The Lord Who Sanctifies You)
El Olam (The Everlasting God)
Elohim (God)
Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide)
Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace)
Jehovah Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts)
But, there was only ONE name Jesus brought to us:
Abba (Daddy)
Not "Father", not "Gray-Bearded Dude in the Clouds"... but DADDY.
To this day, you can go to any given park in Jerusalem and sit quietly and listen to the children playing, and eventually you will hear it... a child who needs a hug, a child who has skinned their knee, a child who that just wants to share this cool insect they found, a child who wants to show off to their Daddy that they can make it all the way across the monkey bars all on their own.
And when a child falls down on their diaper when trying to walk or run, you hear "Abba!" In rushes Daddy to pick them back up, dust off their hiney, and help them to stand again.
THAT's the Message.
THAT's the Gospel.
THAT's the "Good News"...

Imagine this: you are sitting on the beach watching the sunset as waves lap the sand as you bask in the glow. A book lies in your lap as you lose yourself in thought of how wonderful you feel at this moment.
Now imagine what the reality is: You’re dreaming of traveling to the beach, sitting on the sand watching the sun set. But instead of taking the steps to go, you feel fear. What if you’re needed at your job, by your family or any of your other obligations? What if the plane crashes? What if you get lost? What would happen if you let down your guard? What if…?
Living in fear, keeps us form taking the risks and chances to go for what we truly desire. It keeps us from finding true happiness.
Happiness isn’t defined by what you have; where you live; where you go; or the people you love. True happiness is a feeling. It’s something you feel deep inside about yourself and believe yourself to be. But to find it you have to face the fears keeping you paralyzed.
When we have fears, we feel unsafe. Facing our fears and getting out of our comfort zone is hard because of how humans naturally expect the worst-case scenario. Our brains naturally send us negative information because it is trying to keep you safe.
So how can you live a life free of fear and be truly happy?
Everyone has fears. It’s normal. It’s how we react to them that makes the difference in how we feel. But you might find yourself weighed down with too much fear that’s preventing you from being truly happy. If that’s the case, it’s time to get familiar with your fears and find ways to work through them.
Here are 4 common fears and ideas to help you deal with them.
We all have fears of some kind. They may seem rational to us but appear irrational to others. To overcome your fears you need to understand why you have them and then work on facing them so you can live a life of true happiness.
